That (vairagya) is prime when having got the experience/gyan of Purush, a being is free from the desire of all three gunas.

In the words of Adi Shankaracharya, 'Na paapam, na punyam, na sukham, na dukham, tad chidanandarupo shivohum shivohum', it is when a being rises above the desires (satvik, rajasik as well as tamsik) of physical Creation, that the self is achieved. You have to leave one attraction to move on to the next, higher one and you leave the lower attraction only when you find a higher attraction, hence a vicious circle, the way out can only be shown by your Guru, sutras can at best, satisfy the intellect.
